Residencia escritores

In May 2019, REM welcomed the Brazilian writer Luisa Geisler (Brazil, 1991). During her residency, Geisler took part in a range of public events and met with students, writers, readers and translators.

She took part in two public events: an interview with journalist and translator Martín Caamaño in the museum library, and a reading of an unpublished text written for the prompt “Historia secreta de mi biblioteca” (The Secret History of My Library) at the library of the publishing house Ampersand.

At the Buenos Aires International Book Fair, she joined the Latin American Writers' Dialogue on the theme “¿Qué tiene de real el realismo? Modos del realismo en la literatura latinoamericana” (What's Real About Realism? Modes of Realism in Latin American Literature).

As part of the REM Translation Lab, run with students from the Portuguese department at the IES en Lenguas Vivas “Juan Ramón Fernández,” she took part in two intensive translation sessions.

At the IES en Lenguas Vivas, translator Julia Tomasini talked with Geisler about the Spanish translation of Las luces de emergencia se encenderán automáticamente, with interviews by Sofía Sopa and Paula Auer, during a special day devoted to the author.

She also visited the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the University of Buenos Aires, where she spoke with students of Brazilian Literature.

Finally, she took part in “Narrativa en dos lenguas” (Fiction in Two Languages), a bilingual reading of her work with participants from the Translation Lab, held in the Malba library.

She was selected by an honorary committee made up of J. M. Coetzee (writer and Nobel laureate in Literature, South Africa); M. Soledad Costantini (director, Malba Literatura); Christian Lund (director, Louisiana Literature Festival, Denmark); Valerie Miles (editor, Granta en español, United States); and Jorge Monteleone (writer and scholar, Argentina). The process was coordinated by the museum's Literature Department.
