Latinoamérica en expansión reúne una selección de alrededor de 150 piezas creadas entre 1900 y la década de 1970, distribuidas en once núcleos que trazan los itinerarios del modernismo y que fueron los ejes formativos de esta colección: las vanguardias latinoamericanas; el arte de compromiso social; las poéticas surrealistas y la crisis de la razón en los períodos de entreguerras; y los constructivismos sudamericanos. Incluye piezas de Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Antonio Berni, Maria Martins, Emilio Pettoruti, Leonora Carrington, Xul Solar, Wifredo Lam, Remedios Varo, Joaquín Torres-García, Candido Portinari, Roberto Matta y Rafael Barradas, entre muchos otros grandes artistas de la región.
The exhibition revisits the concept of anthropophagy developed by Oswald de Andrade. This notion offers a framework for understanding the originality of Latin American art through the critical assimilation of Western modernism and the recognition of the identities that shape the region. From this perspective, the exhibition highlights shared artistic inquiries while amplifying the diversity of Latin American art.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its opening, the museum is publishing a major volume in order to offer an accessible and rigorous view of the history of Latin American art through works from the collections of Malba and of Eduardo F. Costantini, its founder.
Arte Latinoamericano: Colección Malba-Costantini covers the 125-year period (1900–2025) represented in the museum’s holdings. Structured in five chronological chapters and with an introduction by Rodrigo Moura—former artistic director of Malba and co-editor of the volume—the book addresses major periods and movements as well as specific figures and thematic aspects of each era of Latin American art. The chapters unfold across eighteen essays specially commissioned from internationally recognized art scholars. Carefully and attractively designed, the book alternates illustrated texts with images of some 200 works from the Malba and Costantini collections, in a journey spanning more than a century of collecting and research that makes this book an essential reference publication.
