In April 2022, REM welcomed the Colombian writer Carolina Sanín (Bogotá, 1973).
During her residency in Buenos Aires, Sanín worked on the final stage of a collection of autobiographical texts that, like her book Somos luces abismales, weave together narrative, essay, criticism, literary quotation and lyric poetry.
Alongside the time she devoted to writing and researching her book, she took part in a series of special programs built around her interests, as well as events with fellow writers and local organizations.
She took part in a public interview with Luciana Peker in the Malba library and gave a public reading at the publishing house Ampersand on her life as a reader.
On April 18, 19 and 20, she led the writing workshop “El día y la noche” (Day and Night) in the museum library. Over three sessions, participants explored ways of imagining the passing of day and night through writing exercises and group readings.
She was also invited to the 46th Buenos Aires International Book Fair, where she joined the public conversation “Relaciones afectivas y modernidad” (Intimacy and Modernity) with Alejandra Costamagna and Paloma Vidal, introduced by Laura Cardona.
She was selected by an honorary committee made up of J. M. Coetzee (writer and Nobel laureate in Literature, South Africa); M. Soledad Costantini (director, Malba Literatura); Gustavo Guerrero (editor, Gallimard, France); Christian Lund (director, Louisiana Literature Festival, Denmark); and Valerie Miles (editor, Granta en español, United States). The process was coordinated by the museum's Literature Department.
