Residencia escritores

In July and August 2026, with the support of the Etxepare Euskal Institutua, Malba welcomed Beñat Sarasola (San Sebastián, 1984) to the Malba Writers' Residency (REM).

Sarasola's fellowship was the first ever awarded to a Basque-language writer from the Basque Country.

During his stay, Sarasola worked on his next book and took part in a series of public programs and other activities with fellow writers and local organizations.

He took part in a public interview with scholar Sebastián Amaya and Magdalena Arrupe, coordinator of Malba Literatura. In this open conversation, they discussed the creative processes behind Sarasola's earlier books and the new writing project he developed during his residency. They also talked about the influence of a number of Basque writers who are little known in this part of the world, and about the state of contemporary literature written in Basque.

At the 15th edition of the FED, Sarasola was invited to read at Terraza FED, a poetry series programmed by the Feria de Editores, alongside Alejandro Crotto, María Malusardi, Tomás Fadel and Milagros Pérez Morales. The event was moderated by Lucía Igol and Pierre Froideveaux

Sarasola was also invited to give a talk at the Laurak Bat Basque Center, where he toured the institution, met members of the Basque-Argentine community and spoke about his literary work in Basque.

Toward the end of his stay, he took part in Reader in the Library: Beñat Sarasola Reads at Ampersand, sharing an unpublished text written during his time in the city, joined by Magalí Etchebarne.
